The host of the Onua Maakye show on Onua TV, Captain Smart, has called on John Dramani Mahama to make arrangements for the prosecution and possible imprisonment of the former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost.
Speaking on Onua TV on Sunday evening, Captain Smart said that when John Mahama becomes the president of Ghana on 7th January 2025, he should set up a special committee, with Captain Smart himself as a member, to ensure that some 22 persons in the NPP administration are prosecuted and arrested.
He stated that Opoku Onyinah should be the first person to face the committee. Captain Smart explained that Opoku Onyinah oversaw the construction of a hole which they claim is part of the National Cathedral project. He alleged that a lot of money has been wasted, and for that reason, individuals like Opoku Onyinah should face jail terms if they cannot defend themselves before the committee. Captain Smart also added that he has enough evidence to support their arrest.
He further urged John Mahama not to shy away from taking action because he is a Christian. He argued that a pastor who causes financial loss to the state must be dealt with accordingly.

As you may already know, the Ghana National Cathedral is a Christian worship center being built in Accra as a national landmark. It was proposed by President Nana Akufo-Addo as a place for national prayers and events. However, the project has faced many controversies.
Many argue that using public funds for the project is wrong, especially when Ghana faces economic challenges. Others believe the project is unnecessary because Ghana already has many churches. Questions about transparency in the use of funds and the forced relocation of people from the construction site have also generated several debates. Many Ghanaians feel the government should prioritize solving issues like unemployment and healthcare instead of building a house for God.
