John Mahama Claims Victory In Ghana’s Presidential Election

Ghana’s political scene saw significant changes as the ruling party candidate, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat to opposition leader and former President John Dramani Mahama following the December 7 elections. The elections were marked by economic concerns, with voters expressing their discontent about the government’s handling of the country’s financial struggles.

With Bawumia’s concession, Mahama’s victory was hailed as indicative of the Ghanaians’ desire for change, particularly against the backdrop of one of the toughest economic crises the nation has faced. Bawumia, representing the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), addressed the public from his residence, stating, “The people have voted for change at this time, and we respect their decision with all humility.” He also confirmed he reached out to Mahama personally to congratulate him on his election.
