Supporters of John Dumelo and Lydia Alhassan clashed at the University of Ghana polling station during the ongoing elections, as reported by MyNewsGH.
Reports from Citi News allege that Lydia Alhassan’s camp was distributing money to voters, which prompted Dumelo’s supporters to confront them after discovering someone had filmed the incident.
Tensions escalated into chaos, attracting the intervention of the military, who arrived to restore order.
However, the presence of military personnel caused further unrest among Dumelo’s supporters, who felt intimidated.
One supporter voiced frustration, telling a Citi FM reporter, “Can’t I use my phone in public anymore? I haven’t invaded anyone’s privacy. They hit the man for filming in a public space.” Another added, “We received information that money was being distributed inside. That’s why the person who filmed it went there.”
Expressing discontent with the military’s involvement, the supporter continued, “We don’t know why the military is here, and we don’t understand their role. The only security personnel who should be here are the police. Why are we seeing the military, and why are they preventing us from recording footage of money being given to voters?”
The confrontation highlights rising tensions during the election process.
