Media personality MC Portfolio has opened up on the reason his initial relationship with dancehall musician Shatta Wale turned sour.
In a discussion on Hitz FM on December 5, 2024, MC Portfolio stated that Shatta Wale had asked him to betray his loyalty to fellow industry figures, including Andy Dosty and DJ Slim, a request he turned down, leading to their fallout.
“At one point, there was a conflict between Shatta Wale and Andy Dosty, and Shatta asked me to, in a way, betray Andy. He also told me that I had built a relationship with him to a certain point, and that I should openly defend him when such issues arise. But I told him there’s no way I’d betray my loyalty to Andy just to please him. I didn’t want to be part of it, and that’s when our relationship became shaky,” MC Portfolio explained.
He continued, “At that time, I had already aligned myself with the Stonebwoy’s agenda, and my relationship with Shatta wasn’t great. I’ve always been a BHIM fan, even while working with Shatta.”
Portfolio also addressed claims by DJ Slim that he had followed Shatta Wale around during his recent media tour in Kumasi.
“After everything happened, I lost contact with Shatta for over two years. When he came to Kumasi for a media tour, he unexpectedly showed up on my show on Fakye Showbiz. I didn’t even know how he got on the show; we only found out about an hour before it aired.
“So, the impression that I was following Shatta Wale around in Kumasi is false. Even when he wanted to give me money, I asked him why, and he said it was out of appreciation for the work I had done for him. I didn’t take the money to betray Stonebwoy,” he said.
MC Portfolio also recounted an instance when Shatta Wale’s road manager asked for him to be removed from the show on Angel FM before Shatta would agree to an interview.
“When Shatta Wale came to Angel FM before going to Fakye Showbiz, his road manager told everyone I should leave or Shatta wouldn’t grant the interview. Sammy Flex came in and politely told me I should step out for Shatta’s sake, and at the right time, I would come back. Out of respect for him, I left the scene. I had to return later because I had a segment on the show,” he added.
Background
The controversy began on November 22, 2024, when Shatta Wale visited the Ashanti Region for a media tour, making stops at stations like Angel FM and Fakye Showbiz.
During his appearance on Fakye Showbiz, Shatta Wale offered MC Portfolio, a close associate of Stonebwoy, GH¢5,000 live on TV, sparking widespread condemnation.
Critics slammed Portfolio for accepting the money from Shatta Wale, who is considered Stonebwoy’s greatest rival in the industry.
