Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has expressed deep frustration over his impersonation on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) as reported by Ghana Web on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Speaking on the Peace FM Kokrokoo program on Tuesday, December 3, Pratt revealed that an unidentified individual has been using his name and likeness to carry out unauthorized and illegal activities on the platform.
Pratt, who discovered the fake account two years ago, has made several unsuccessful attempts to have it removed. Despite his efforts, including filing multiple complaints to X, the account remains active, damaging his reputation.
He highlighted that the impersonator appears to have access to personal details about him, making it easier to mislead followers and respond to queries from X officials.
Pratt expressed his dismay over the situation, stating, “Someone has set up a Twitter (X) account in my name, and the things he or she is doing with that account are unbelievable.
He has thousands of followers. I issued a statement, but the person did not heed. I have filed complaints to Twitter five times, and nothing has been done about it.”
The veteran journalist emphasized that the impersonation is severely affecting his public image. He shared his concerns, saying, “On Monday, the person paid money to be verified in my name.
To whoever the person is, what have I done to you? What have I done to you for you to impersonate me and use my identity to say some terrible things about me? Do you know what you are doing to my reputation?”
Pratt’s emotional appeal urged the impersonator to stop, as he reiterated the harm caused by the fake account. “I have to take action because the person is hurting me,” he added.
