The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has outlined plans to establish a state-of-the-art Farmers’ Service Center in Ejura to enhance agricultural efficiency and productivity in the Ejura-Sekyeredumasi Constituency.
This predominantly farming area is one of the four constituencies the NDC holds in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking at a campaign rally during the first day of his six-day tour of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Mahama committed to introducing a fair measurement system to promote equity in grain and cereal sales.
He further announced plans to construct a modern market to bolster trading activities in the constituency.
“We’ll establish a Farmers’ Service Centre. 15 tractors and other farming tools will be stationed here. Farmers would be required to register for tractors. If you request a tractor to work on your farm, it will be granted. If you need fertiliser, you will go to the Farmers’ Service Center, where all your farm inputs will be delivered.
In a bid to support women entrepreneurs, Mr. Mahama revealed that a branch of the Women’s Development Bank would be established in Ejura, providing financial aid to women traders. Additionally, he pledged that an NDC government would grant two public holidays for Muslims during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, doubling the current single-day allowance.
He also assured the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital project, initiated by the current administration, should the NDC return to power.
Concluding his address, Mr. Mahama cautioned against “skirt and blouse” voting, urging constituents to vote in unity for both the NDC parliamentary candidate and a presidential ticket to strengthen the party’s overall impact.
“You will pay a small fee after selling your farm produce. We will abolish the use of size 5 in measuring the prices of bags of maize. We will introduce size 4. We will also build a new Ejura market. We will establish one of the Women’s Development Bank centres here in Ejura.
