According to a report from Yawanews. A disturbing incident has emerged involving a young man and his sister who are seeking accountability from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) after using a cream that they claim severely damaged their skin. The duo purchased the product following a promotional advertisement they encountered on TikTok, which led them to believe the cream was safe for use.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media platform X, a user named WithAlvin shared their story. The young man, visibly distressed, described the alarming effects the cream had on both him and his sister. Their faces appeared swollen, particularly around the eyes, resembling injuries from physical assault.
In the self-recorded footage, the young man expressed his anguish, stating, “We were here and someone came to advertise a cream on TikTok, and we went to buy some, I and my sister, and the cream spoilt our face. We must let them know, that it has spoilt all our face.” He called for action from the FDA, urging them to take responsibility and address the issue of unregulated creams being sold in the market. “FDA people, FDA you are in this country and these people are selling this cream, and they are destroying our face. Look at my sister’s face,” he added.
The young man’s plea highlights a growing concern regarding the safety of cosmetic products and the regulation of such items in Ghana. He urged the FDA to step up its efforts in monitoring and controlling the sale of unapproved and potentially harmful skincare products.
This incident raises critical questions about the effectiveness of current regulations governing cosmetic products and the role of social media in influencing consumer behavior. As platforms like TikTok become popular avenues for product promotion, the potential risks associated with unverified claims become more pronounced.
The FDA has yet to respond publicly to this specific incident, but the young man’s appeal underscores the urgent need for greater oversight in the cosmetic market to protect consumers from harmful products. The situation serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of verifying the safety and legitimacy of skincare items before use, especially those advertised online.
As the story continues to unfold, many are left wondering how the FDA will address this alarming issue and what measures will be implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
