It is exactly two weeks away from the crucial upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. Political parties and independent candidates are adding the finishing touches to their campaign efforts.
The bookmakers have tipped Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Former President John Dramani Mahama to dominate the presidential election.
As the the country gears up for D-Day, Musa Dankwa, the Executive Director and Head of Research at Global InfoAnalytics notes that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot win the polls if it fails to improve its 2020 margin in two key regions.
In a Facebook post, Musa Dankwa mentions that the ruling government should kiss the presidency goodbye if they fail to improve their 2020 margin in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions.
The two regions are considered as the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The party has dominated these regions in both presidential and parliamentary elections.
In the 2020 presidential election, President Nana Akufo Addo garnered 72.8 % of the total valid votes in the Ashanti Region, with Mahama amassing 26.5%.
In the Eastern Region, Nana Akufo Addo had 60.46% and John Dramani Mahama got 38.47%.
Musa Dankwa who has consistently predicted victory for John Dramani Mahama in the December polls maintained that the NPP’s performance in these two regions is crucial to their aspiration of being retained in power for the next four years, stressing that the NPP must not just win these two regions but also maintain or improve on their previous tally.
“The Ashanti and Eastern Regions, what will the margins be? If they fail to exceed 2020, the race will be over early,” he posted.
