A latest advert of the opposition NDC has labelled Dr. Bawumia, Vice president and NPP’s Flagbearer for the upcoming general elections as the biggest Liar in Ghana.
The animated video advert was shared by NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. He captioned the video “Who is the biggest liar in Ghana? Watch this video and judge for yourself. Your vote is your power. Vote for a leader you can trust. Vote for a leader who delivers.”
The video shows a clip of Dr. Bawumia being asked in 2020 to name the signature or most significant project the NPP has carried out in the Northern part of the country where he (Dr. Bawumia) comes from. Dr. Bawumia responded by saying “I think the most important project that we (NPP) have done in the North since Independence is the Pwalugu Dam project. It’s the biggest investment and when you consider signature projects, that will be placed as the number one position. There’s no doubt about that.”
The animated advert continues with the viral sponge Bob cartoons interlude “a few moments later”, and show Dr. Bawumia in 2024 speaking at a gathering saying they have not yet been able to do the Pwalugu Dam, but he believes they will do it. “I have no doubt in my mind, and I was championing the Pwalugu Dam, we have not yet been able to do it but by the grace of God I believe we are going to do the Pwalugu Dam. It has to be done.”
Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 submissions on the Dam is a sharp contrast from 2020 where he claimed the project was done and was the signature project of the Akufo-Addo NPP government in the North.
The Pwalugu Multipurpose Irrigation Dam was expected to be constructed on the White Volta river at Pwalugu in the Upper East Region along the Bolgatanga – Tamale road. The proposed location of the dam shares Boundary with Dr. Bawumia’s home region, North East. As of May 2024, a citinewsroom report disclosed that about $12 million has been spent towards the project. However, as of November 2024, the site is still bare land with no single sign of construction works ongoing.
