The Ghana Police Service in the Central Region has warned the media to avoid reporting fake news during the upcoming December 7 elections, emphasizing the need for accurate reporting to ensure a peaceful process.
The police have clarified that only media houses accredited by the Electoral Commission will be permitted to cover the elections on December 7.
Additionally, the police urged media outlets to collaborate with law enforcement, reporting any potential security concerns to enable prompt action.
Speaking to the press in Cape Coast, Regional Commander DCOP Kofi Adu reassured the public that the police are fully prepared for the elections and committed to ensuring a violence-free process.
“Accreditation will be given by the EC so any identified media house who doesn’t have accreditation should resist coming to the station to speculate false information, for you will be severally dealt with. Only accredited media houses are permitted to cover the election, and they shall display their EC-accredited cards at all times.
“We want you to report accordingly, don’t report on what you have not seen, report on fact. If any information that you share with the public doesn’t carry the facts, the public will react in a way which will not work well in the entire region, come to the police station for verification if you are not too sure of any information for us to assist you.”
