The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, has stated that his decision regarding the next parliamentary recall will be guided by the directives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This follows a recent instruction by the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, for the party’s Members of Parliament to boycott any emergency recall of Parliament. Nketiah argued that such sessions are being convened with the intent to promote corrupt agendas.
He made these remarks during a tour of the Western region on November 16, where he criticized the Majority Caucus, claiming there was no legitimate reason for the recall other than to pursue questionable objectives.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News, Murtala Mohammed emphasized that his decision aligns with the views of his constituents in Tamale Central.
He noted that the overwhelming sentiment from his daily engagements with the community is to reject the parliamentary recall.
Mohammed also reaffirmed that his role as a representative in Parliament is rooted in the will and vision of the people of Tamale, and he would adhere to their wishes in any decision he makes.
“I belong to a party and I represent a constituency. I came to parliament through the decision of the party and the vision of the people. Therefore whatever the party decides is certainly what the majority of the people in Tamale Central will agree to.
“I can tell you, if we are to pick the decision of the people of Tamale Central, overwhelmingly they think we shouldn’t even go to parliament and this information is based on the responses gathered from my daily community engagement with the assemblymen, and the people of Tamale central”.
