As the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections approach, some unscrupulous individuals have taken advantage of technological advancement to spread fake news about key political figures to make them or their political parties unattractive to Ghanaian voters.
The level of technology used by some of these people makes it difficult to differentiate between original and fake news.
Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who has been a target for some of these unscrupulous individuals has come out to debunk a viral message on Facebook which has been attributed to him.
In a viral post on Facebook, Sammy Gyamfi is purported to have said that Former President John Agyekum Kufour will be sent to jail immediately Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), is sworn into office.
But in a Facebook post, Sammy Gyamfi described the news as totally false, explaining that it did come from him. He urged Ghanaians to disregard the news and treat it with the contempt it deserves. He said it was fake, assuring his supporters that he did not make such comments about Former President John Agyekum Kufour.
The clarification from him has cleared the doubt of some of his followers who were worried about such pronouncements.
They took to his comments section to thank him for setting the records straight.
“Sammy I don’t support NDC again for personal reasons but am very sure you will never say this!!!. Such things don’t win a single vote and it’s a shame Whoever did it” one person commented.
