The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, is asserting that the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, is the best bet to drive the economy forward and has therefore encouraged voters to vote for him as the next president.
Rebecca made these remarks when she visited the Ablekuma Central and the Klottey Korley constituencies as part of her campaign tour in the Greater Accra Region ahead of the general elections.
The campaign tour is aimed at garnering votes for Bawumia and, by extension, the NPP parliamentary candidates of the two constituencies, Jefferson Sackey and Valentino Nii Noi Nortey.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady attributed the current economic challenges to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war and noted that she believes Bawumia is the right person to improve the economy.
“When we’ve done a lot since we came to power, and I know things became difficult. Things went well within the first four years, then COVID-19 and the Ukraine war came to slow things down.”
“Dr. Bawumia is very intelligent; he is a young man who has a lot to offer, so let us all rally behind him to make him the president of Ghana so he can drive the economy forward. I tell you, the NPP is your best bet,” she noted.
The First Lady, appreciating the constituents for their support during Nana Addo’s governance, urged them to rally the same support for Bawumia just as they did for Nana Addo.
“Thank you for your support, and God bless you all. I want to use this opportunity to plead with you: just as you supported us, you should do the same for Dr. Bawumia and my son, Jefferson.”
On his part, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma Central, Jefferson Sackey, pledged the construction of the second phase of the Shukura Market within the first three months of office should he win the parliamentary seat.
“Our mothers at Shukura, thank you for your support. Construction of phase one of the Shukura market was started by the former NPP MP for Ablekuma Central, and I came to complete it when I became the Parliamentary Candidate.”
“I am promising you, as a member of parliament, that in my first three months, I will construct phase two of the Shukura market for all the market women to benefit,” he added.
