Frank Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Appiah Stadium, has challenged Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as reported by Ghana Web on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
Appiah Stadium, a political activist in Kumasi, has criticized Wontumi’s threats to banish Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye from the Ashanti region, urging him to stop targeting the former police official.
Appiah Stadium argued that COP Kofi Boakye, who has familial roots in Kumasi, holds a stronger cultural connection to the region than Wontumi, whose family does not originate from Ashanti.
“Kofi Boakye’s mother and father come from Kumasi,” Appiah Stadium stated in an interview on Angel TV. “For him, whose mother and father come from this place, you are threatening him. Meanwhile, you, Wontumi, you are not from here.”
The dispute escalated following Wontumi’s recent claims that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) intends to instigate violence during the upcoming elections. Wontumi insisted that the NPP would oppose any acts of disorder.
Speaking at a rally, he cautioned, “Those who are being bribed by the NDC to instigate violence should forget about it because they cannot do anything.”
He added that if gunshots are heard on election day, he would hold COP Boakye accountable and push for his removal from the region.
Appiah Stadium criticized Wontumi’s focus on Boakye, urging him to respect Ashanti roots and prioritize regional unity.
