“In a Serious Country, He’d Be Sacked or Made to Resign” — See What Yofi Grant Brought to the Studio

In a footage that has gone viral, Mr. Yofi Grant, the CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), appeared to suggest that he does not drink local water, as he was seen with a bottle of imported water while in the studio of StarrFM.

Recently, Yofi Grant visited the StarrFM studio for an insightful conversation. During this visit, he placed the imported water bottle he was carrying on the table, which caught a lot of attention. This led many Ghanaians to feel insulted, and they took to social media to share their disappointment and frustration.

One Ghanaian user noted, “A CEO of a state-owned enterprise meant to promote Made in Ghana products for export is rather openly carrying imported bottled drinking water without a modicum of respect for his office. In a serious country, this man should have been pressured to resign or be sacked. Boris Johnson on my mind.”

According to renowned critic BongoIdeas, the water that Mr. Yofi Grant was carrying was identified as San Pellegrino sparkling water, which is priced at GH₵652.60 per bottle. He further criticized Yofi Grant, stating that the CEO appears to disregard the issue of our polluted water and is unlikely to take any meaningful action to address it. Many Ghanaians agreed with this view.

The frustration and disappointment expressed by Ghanaians are not unfounded, especially considering that Mr. Yofi Grant is widely believed to be responsible for promoting Made in Ghana products. Therefore, it stands to reason that he should be using local products as a means to promote them effectively, particularly since a netizen pointed out that similar bottled water is indeed produced and made in Ghana.

Here is the video and some reactions from Ghanaians:
