Election 2024: Prioritize peace, well-being of Ghanaians

The President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Eric Nyamekye has called on all stakeholders and political parties to prioritize the peace and well-being of Ghanaians as the country prepares for the 2024 general elections.

He made this appeal at the launch of the National Peace Campaign, themed “Let Peace Prevail,” held at the forecourt of the State House, on Sunday, November 3.

In his address, Apostle Nyamekye urged stakeholders to avoid violence, emphasizing the need for sacrifice, compromise, and intentional actions that will support peace and stability for Ghanaians throughout the election period and beyond.

“I must acknowledge that while the overall atmosphere during these elections has been peaceful, they have occasionally seen instances of violence which sometimes led to the loss of lives.

“The call for peace to prevail on our land before, during and after the general election should be of general concern for every Ghanaian, particularly those who seek to rule the land, as well as the institutions which seek to steer the nation’s affairs.

“I’m pleased to see key representatives from the Electoral Commission (EC), political parties and security agencies who are here, I’m confident that they are all dedicated to safeguarding the peace we cherish as a country. It’s crucial to prioritise the peace and well-being of our citizens in every election.

“Achieving [peace] will require sacrifices, comprises, it will demand intentional efforts and thoughtful action by all meaningful stakeholders,” Apostle Eric Nyamekye advised.

Present at the event included the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama and other prominent politicians and stakeholders.
