According to the vieo posted by GHOne TV, in the Central Region of Ghana, a 30-year-old mother reportedly took the lives of her two young children before ending her own life.
The tragic event unfolded on Saturday, October 28, 2024, in the quiet village of Awutu Breku.
Police officers were alerted after neighbors became concerned about the family’s well-being when they noticed the house was unusually silent.
Upon arrival, police discovered the locked door to the home. After forcing their way inside, they found the lifeless bodies of the children, aged 5 and 2.
The mother allegedly used a sharp machete, known locally as a “panga,” in this horrifying act. After the murders, she reportedly hanged herself in the family’s small backyard.
The local police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with initial reports suggesting that mental health issues might have played a role in her actions.
The bodies of the children and their mother have been taken to the Central Regional Hospital for autopsies. Authorities are also looking into the possibility that the scene may have been staged, although that remains speculative at this point.
Mental health experts in Ghana are expressing concern over rising cases of domestic violence and suicide. They cite various factors, including economic hardship, unemployment, and social pressures, as contributing to the mental health crisis in many communities.
“It is heartbreaking to see such tragedies,” said Dr. Nana Yaa Agyemang, a local psychologist. “We need to provide more support for individuals struggling with mental health issues to prevent future incidents.”
Just a few months ago, a similar case shocked a neighboring district when a father harmed his children before attempting to take his own life after a family dispute.
