The Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has criticized the Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, for his recent remarks during a courtesy call by the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama.

In a video clip from a campaign event, NAPO expressed displeasure with the chief’s advice to Mahama, urging him to jail all corrupt NPP officials if he wins the December 7, 2024 presidential election.

NAPO also took issue with Mahama’s remarks accusing chiefs and the clergy of not being vocal in their criticism of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.

“The Chief Imam says you should speak decently. If you are a Muslim and you vote for… eii, eii, eii. The president of the National House of Chiefs said if you go to pastors, they should pray for you. Why would you (Mahama) say they are hypocrites when they are praying for someone? Sir, learn to speak well,” NAPO stated in Twi.

He continued, “After making this statement, Mahama visited a chief, the Goasomanhene, who insulted us. The Goasomanhene said, ‘If you (Mahama) come to power, arrest NPP officials who looted from the state.’ But the person standing near him, wasn’t he the one involved in a road contract bribe scandal? Has he been arrested?” he questioned.

NAPO further argued that if corrupt officials are to be jailed, Mahama himself would be first in line.

“If you are saying people should be arrested, then Mahama would be going to jail… Don’t say things that, when they happen, Ghanaians will wonder, ‘God, didn’t you say you are forgiving?’ No! If the NDC plans to jail NPP officials, they themselves are already in jail,” NAPO added.

What the Goasomanhene Said:

Nana Kwasi Bosomprah supported former President Mahama’s comments on the lack of candor from chiefs and the clergy regarding the performance of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration.

During an engagement with the NDC Flagbearer and members of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the Goasomanhene expressed concerns that pastors and clergy were not being honest about the current state of affairs in the country.

“Our pastors and chiefs are not telling things as they are. Today, everyone is pretending as if they are not Ghanaians,” the chief lamented in Twi.

The paramount chief urged Mahama to recover state resources looted under the Akufo-Addo-led government and prosecute those responsible.

“I am pleading with you, if you get the opportunity to be president, go after everyone who has looted state money because there is none left except the little remaining in people’s pockets and hidden under their beds. So, we are begging you, jail whoever deserves to be jailed,” he appealed.
