Labour expert Austin Gamey has issued a stern call to the government, urging immediate action against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Tuesday, Gamey expressed his frustration over the government’s delayed response to the ongoing environmental crisis caused by galamsey activities.
Gamey highlighted the severe impact of illegal mining on the environment and the livelihoods of countless Ghanaians.
He emphasised that the time for action is long overdue and that further delays could lead to irreversible damage.
“There is nothing special about this illegality. It’s a killer, it’s a poison. It’s unacceptable and therefore we have delayed, and government should act almost immediately, they are my friends in government. They should act almost immediately,” he stated.
He added “…Let’s reset ourselves in order to be able to keep life and body and spirit going.”
Gamey also lauded the Organised Labour for declaring a nationwide strike following the government’s failure to address the menace.
