Love for country is supreme- PWDS President

By Mildred Siabi-Mensah

Sekondi, Sept. 9, GNA – Mr. Richard Asare, the Western Regional President of Persons with Disability (PWDs) has encouraged all political parties to allow love for country to rule in all activities.

He believed that when love for a country superseded parochial and selfish interest then the peace and stability the country was enjoying could be entrenched.

Mr. Asare said, “Ghana first before any party…parties will go and come but Ghana remained and so the need for all political parties to strive to add to the peace the country currently enjoys”.

The President of the PWDs at the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Inter-Party Dialogue Committee meeting said the sufferings the vulnerable groups had to endure in terms of war and other chaotic activities and pleaded with the parties to avoid violence.

Mr. Asare also spoke vehemently against vote buying, adding, “If you really want to serve me, then why do you give me monies, television, pans and other items to win my vote.”

He said monetization of votes was gradually derailing the development of all sectors of society and advised both the giver and the receiver to resist the act.

The various political parties that gathered at the meeting pledged to ensure peace during the elections and urged the Electoral Commission to do the right things as a matter of priority to avoid any unforeseen issues.

Mrs. Harriet Addeywood, the Metropolitan Director of the NCCE expressed her disappointment at the attitude of the bigger parties towards the IPDC initiative, adding that in all the four Sub metro engagements, the larger parties did not well represent.

She prayed that all stakeholders would work in their space to ensure Violent free elections.

The NCCE believed that taking misinformation and disinformation from the political space, paying the electorates to vote a particular way could be stopped for conscious and committed choices to reign in public campaigns and any elections.
