Yoni Kulendi must resign from SC Bench -Lawyer –

A private legal practitioner Mr Alex Quartey is calling for the immediate resignation of Supreme Court judge Yoni Kulendi, accusing him of compromising the integrity of his office.

Mr Quartey’s demands come in response to a controversial meeting between Justice Kulendi, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Godfred Yeboah Dame, and Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing ambulance trial involving the Minority Leader, Dr Casiel Ato Forrson.

Mr Quartey contends that the Supreme Court judge must have declined any invitation to meet with the Attorney-General and the third accused, particularly in light of Mr Jakpa being Justice Kulendi’s cousin.

He argues that Justice Kulendi’s actions are more egregious than those of the Attorney-General, who allowed the meeting to take place in his residence.

“The Supreme Court judge should have rejected the invitation for a meeting with the A-G and the third accused at Justice Kulendi’s private residence, knowing full well that Mr. Jakpa is his cousin,” Mr Quartey stated.

He accused the Supreme Court judge of colluding with his cousin to entrap the Attorney-General.

Mr Quartey further criticized Justice Kulendi for permitting the meeting at his home, emphasizing the impropriety given that the matter before the High Court could eventually escalate to the Supreme Court.

“As a practicing lawyer, I am deeply concerned when I see Judge Yoni Kulendi at the Apex court,” Quartey remarked.

He made these comments while discussing the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s accusations of witness tampering against Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame on the Ghana Yensom morning show, hosted by Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

Mr Quartey argues that it is absolutely improper for a sitting Supreme Court judge to invite an accused person involved in plea bargaining to his residence.

Mr Quartey’s demand for Justice Kulendi’s resignation underscores the gravity of the situation and highlights concerns about the impartiality and integrity of the Judiciary in high-stakes legal matters.
