Begoro, Akyem Abuakwa councils seek destoolment of Chief for endorsing Mahama, 24-hour economy –

A case has been submitted at the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional council by Chiefs of Begoro namely Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe Otweresohene, Okyeame Owusu and Bafour Sakyi Amankwaa II against Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II for endorsing John Mahama.

The said Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II who is Ankobeahene of Begoro is accused of dabbling in partisan politics by making clear public statements that indicated Begoro and Nananon supported John Mahama and the 24 Hour Economy.

In a case set to be heard today, the Petitioners claim Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II without regard to custom brought the name of Begoro stool into disrepute and political ridicule by endorsing John Mahama and the NDC during the Building Ghana Tour by the opposition figure.

They say Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II should appear before the Kyebi-based traditional council to show cause “why he should not be customarily sanctioned for dragging the Begoro stool, the people of Begoro, and the stool elders of Begoro into partisan politics”.

According to the accusers of Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, at a campaign meeting organized by the National Democratic Congress and attended by its flag bearer, John Mahama, the Ankobeahene Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II purporting to represent Nananom and the people of Begoro made the following allegedly partisan political statements:

  1. That the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress is the incoming President of Ghana.
  2. That the people of Begoro must vote massively for the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress.
  3. That the 24 hour economic policy of the NDC government will rescue the
    people of Begoro from poverty.
  4. That all nananom have invoked a incantation and poured libations against the breaking the 8 mantra of the New Patiotic Party Government
  5. That the people of Begoro must be vigilant against vote rigging agenda of the current government.
  6. That the Parliamentary candidate of the opposition NDC lost by dubious means in the previous elections.
  7. That the people of Begoro must vote massively for him in the coming elections.

We are Embarrassed about Mahama endorsement- punish Ankobeahene

The Chief of Begoro say the actions and utterances of Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II above “completely embarrassed” them because he neither sought permission nor consent before attending the said NDC meeting and saying what he said.

The Chiefs of Begoro say they summoned Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II before the stool elders of Begoro to explain the basis of his conduct but he disrespected summons.

They say the Begoro stool and the Ofori Panin stool has been brought into “disrepute, public hatred, anger and ridicule” because of the Mahama Endorsement.

They are seeking the following reliefs:

A declaration that the conduct of the respondent flies in the face of custom and therefore null, void and of no effect.
