Asake beats Burna Boy,Tyla to win ‘Best African Act’

Afrobeats singer, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, clinched the award of the Best African Artist of the Year at the 2024 MOBO Awards held in Sheffield, United Kingdom, on Wednesday, February 7.

 

The ‘Amapiano’ crooner defeated his fellow Nigerian artists, Davido, Ayra Starr, Rema, Burna Boy, Adekunle Gold, and Grammy-winning South African singer, Tyla and others to clinch the award.

Asake now joins 2Baba, D’Banj, Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy on the list of Nigerians who have won Best African Act at the MOBO Awards.

Central Cee topped the winners at the 2024 Mobo Awards, winning Best Male for the second year in a row, and Best Song for Sprinter, his collaborative track with Dave, that dominated the summer months with a 10-week run at No. 1.

The MOBO awards, which celebrate black musical artistry in the UK and globally, spread the garlands across a diverse range of music, with no one artist dominating.

Lifetime achievement award: Soul II Soul

Impact Award: Sugababes

Paving the Way award: Jessica Ennis-Hill
