Gospel musician Sonnie Badu reacts to the disappointing 2-2 draw between Ghana and Mozambique at the ongoing African Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.
Ghana currently needs lots of help from other groups to stand any chance of qualification to the knockout stage of the competition after blowing a two-goal lead against Mozambique in their final group game of the tournament.
The equalizer that threw Ghana’s qualification into jeopardy was nothing but a comic and avoidable mistake by goalkeeper Richard Ofori, who for whatever reason, decided to touch a ball that was heading out for a goal kick.

His touch led to a corner kick that was taken with all the energy left in attack for the Mozambiquans and got a late equalizer that many believe they deserve due to the high tempo at which they were pressing Ghanaians throughout the game.
Richard Ofori’s mistake has now forced Sonnie Bdu to question the technical team’s decision to bench Swedish-based goalkeeper Ati Zigi in favour of the former Wa All-Stars man.
He argued that there is no way Richard Ofori should be the one in goal for the Black Stars when Ati Zigi is fit because he believes the latter is much a better shot-stopper than the former.
Sonnie Badu then called for the immediate resignation or sacking of the entire goalkeeping department of the senior male national team for choosing Ofori as the number one shot-stopper ahead of others in the country.
“I think the goalkeeping staff should resign. This is very embarrassing. Richard Kingston, are you telling us that Richard Of or I was smarter in training than Ati Zigi?” He wrote alongside a video he shared explaining his points.
The renowned gospel musician went on to accuse the top hierarchy in African football of playing politics with the game and cited it as the reason why they aren’t moving forward like most European nations when it comes to football.

In a separate post, Sonnie Badu argued that Ati Zigi was the man trusted in goal during the World Cup and plays regularly at his club level in Europe, so there is no sense in benching him for a goalkeeper who is considered a third choice in the South African league.
“Someone should ask Olele for me – why Zigi who went to the World Cup and plays in Europe was benched? And Ofori who plays in South Africa and is a third choice keeper made number 1? We need answers!!! Olele you have been in Blackstars for years as a goalkeeper and a goalkeepers coach why would you do this?” he asked.
