Kwesi Nyantakyi denies ‘having the president in his pocket’ statement

The story of former Kwesi Nyantakyi and Anas is one that Ghanaians aren’t going to forget anytime soon and the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) boss has revealed some parts of his version of the story.

In an investigative piece released some years ago, it was alleged that the ex-GFA boss had promised to introduce some personalities who disguised themselves as businessmen to top-ranking members of the country, including the president.

He is out now with his side of the story and according to him, his words about leading the businessmen to meet some top politicians in the country weren’t in any negative or corrupt way but a way of lobbying for the country to gain from the self-tittle wealthy businessmen.

Knyantakyi stated that, in the course of their discussion, the Arab businessmen told him about their initial plan of investing a huge amount to establish some companies in the West African country.

He went further with his revelation by making it known that the Sheikh he was having a business meeting with at that time indicated their desire as a company to pump as much as $2 billion into establishing a refinery firm in Ghana and it was at this point that he said the president, vice President and others would be happy to meet them.

Nyantakyi made this revelation in a tell-it-all interview with Bola Ray on Star FM.

FIFA cut Nyantakyi’s life ban to 15 years

In October 2020, former Ghana Football Association boss Nyantakyi had some relief after his ban was reduced to 15 years, having initially been banned for life to stay away from any football-related issue, both local and international.

The FIFA’s Ethics Committee banned Nyantakyi for life in 2018 after he was found guilty of breaching ethics regulations on conflicts of interest, bribery, corruption and commission.

The former Ghana Football Association President was also fined £394,000 (€441,000) for his involvement in the alleged corruption video, an investigative piece by Tiger Eye led by Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas.
