The ANC, the ruling party of South Africa, faces a dilemma over the retirement age of its ministers and parliament members. The party’s constitution sets the retirement age for ANC office-bearers at 60 years, but this does not apply to those in government positions.

This creates a situation where some senior ANC leaders, such as Naledi Pandor, Gwede Mantashe, and Cyril Ramaphosa, are over 60 years old and still hold key cabinet and parliament positions. Some critics argue that the ANC should enforce a uniform retirement age for all its members, regardless of their deployment, to allow for generational renewal and fresh leadership.
