When alcohol reaches the brain, it binds to GABA receptors and produces the same effects, relaxing and calming people down. The problem with alcohol is that it also has other negative side effects, like hangover, movement difficulties, speaking and thinking problems, etc.\u00a0 GABA Labs is currently working on a type of synthetic alcohol called Alcarelle that is supposed to provide all the positive effects of alcohol consumption, but none of the bad ones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/photos\/V1zGiNVPumM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Vinicius Amano\/Unsplash<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels like what a glass of wine feels like,\u201d GABA Labs founder Dr. David Nutt told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/synthetic-alcohol-no-hangover-511fc418?mod=hp_featst_pos5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a>. \u201cIt feels relaxing. It makes you a bit more chatty, a bit more socially engaged with people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know where in the brain alcohol has its \u2018good\u2019 effects and \u2018bad\u2019 effects, and what particular receptors mediate that \u2013 Gaba, glutamate and other ones, such as serotonin and dopamine,\u201d Nutt told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/science\/2019\/mar\/26\/an-innocent-drink-could-alcosynth-provide-all-the-joy-of-booze-without-the-dangers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Guardian<\/a> in 2019. \u201cThe effects of alcohol are complicated but \u2026 you can target the parts of the brain you want to target.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tbikwGHjVMg\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tbikwGHjVMg<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Apparently, Alcarelle is a tasteless substance that can be added to other drinks \u2013 alcoholic or non-alcoholic \u2013 to boost their tipsiness potential without the negative side effects. That\u2019s a groundbreaking prospect in itself, considering the serious health problems linked to alcohol consumption. If people could get their \u2018fix\u2019 from synthetic alcohol without suffering damage to their liver, heart, brain, etc., that could potentially save millions of lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt makes you a little slack around the jaw, a little bit chatty, mellow, so I\u2019m pretty confident people will find it does what they want it to do,\u201d Dr. David Nutt told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehook.com\/article\/booze\/future-non-alcoholic-drinking-alcarelle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Inside Hook<\/a>, adding that he and his partners at GABA Labs hope to launch Alcarelle by 2026. However, the founders of GAB Labs claim that just because something is natural, doesn\u2019t automatically make it good for you.
