{"id":97158,"date":"2023-09-04T20:56:44","date_gmt":"2023-09-04T20:56:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/09\/04\/pept-atikus-lawyer-and-pdp-anticipate-success-ahead-of-the-tribunal-verdict\/"},"modified":"2023-09-04T20:56:44","modified_gmt":"2023-09-04T20:56:44","slug":"pept-atikus-lawyer-and-pdp-anticipate-success-ahead-of-the-tribunal-verdict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/09\/04\/pept-atikus-lawyer-and-pdp-anticipate-success-ahead-of-the-tribunal-verdict\/","title":{"rendered":"PEPT: Atiku&#8217;s lawyer and PDP anticipate success ahead of the tribunal verdict"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>According to a report by THE PUNCH, there is a high level of anticipation and anxiety surrounding the impending judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), particularly for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar from the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).<\/p>\n<p>The PEPT is scheduled to deliver its judgment this month, following the constitutional requirement to issue a judgment within 180 days from the filing of petitions by aggrieved candidates, as stated in Section 285 (6) of the 1999 constitution.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners,  the PDP and its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, as well as the LP candidate Peter Obi, presented their cases in June. They called 40 out of the 150 listed witnesses in their petitions challenging the victory of the APC and Tinubu in the February 25th presidential election. The tribunal has since reserved its judgment.<\/p>\n<p>With mounting anxiety among political parties, candidates, and concerned citizens, various groups have resorted to prayers, while others have provided cautionary advice and admonitions to the justices, urging them to uphold justice.<\/p>\n<p>Atiku\u2019s legal team emphasized the tribunal\u2019s independence from executive influence and called on it to \u201cdispense judgment on the matter.\u201d Mike Ozekhome, SAN, a member of Atiku\u2019s legal team, expressed his expectations of a just outcome and urged the tribunal to resist any attempts at executive intimidation.<\/p>\n<p>The PDP has also conveyed confidence in the tribunal\u2019s ability to deliver justice.
