Former Kaizer Chiefs star Given Thibedi is believed to be set to sign a new one-year deal with Motsepe Foundation Championship club Casric Stars.

Initially, the former Amakhosi player was linked to an exit from Stars following their failure to secure promotion to DStv Premiership through the promotion playoffs.

However, new reports suggests that the National First Division side have now made a u-turn as they are planning to keep the player in their squad for at least another season.

The club’s overturned decision to keep him at the club for longer might have been influenced by the loss, of quality players to rival Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs in the open July transfer window.

Indications are that Stars made the u-turn to rather keep Thibedi following the exits of their top goalscorer Kgomotso Mosadi and another key player Thabang Rakwena.

The now former Casric Stars duo ply their trade in the DStv Premiership with Sekhukhune United as they are playing top flight football which is a big step in their professional football careers.

The exits of the two key players opened the doors for Thibedi to extend his stay at Casric Stars on a reported one-year deal.

Thibedi joined Swallows from Kaizer Chiefs in the 2021/22 campaign on a permanent move following an impressive loan spell with the Birds from Chiefs in the previous campaign.

Thibedi then joined Casric Stars in the 2022/23 campaign but featured in only five league matches for Stars and three appearances in the playoffs tournament.

However, despite his limited game-time last season, he is believed to be set for another season at his Motsepe Foundation Championship club.
