The charter, aimed at unseating the African National Congress from power after the upcoming 2024 elections, has been the subject of considerable attention and speculation. However, the EFF’s exclusion from the coalition and the charter’s perceived animosity towards the party have raised eyebrows.

Shivambu did not mince his words, labeling the charter as a “joke” and raising doubts about its feasibility. “Half of these will not make it to Parliament, and the remaining ones will not garner more than 25% combined,” Shivambu remarked, displaying skepticism about the potential impact of the united opposition front.

The EFF deputy president further underlined his party’s strong position, confidently asserting that the EFF alone holds the key to defeating both the “puppets” aligned with the multi-party charter and the ANC itself. “The EFF South Africa will decisively defeat these puppets and the ANC combined,” he asserted, emphasising the EFF’s determination to secure a prominent role in the political landscape beyond 2024.

Shivambu’s reaction to the multi-party charter encapsulates the tension and rivalry between the EFF and other opposition parties as they strive to reshape South Africa’s political future. The exclusion of the EFF from the coalition appears to have heightened the party’s sense of determination to maintain its influence and potentially seize the center of political power in the forthcoming years.

As the 2024 elections approach, the political landscape in South Africa remains dynamic and unpredictable. The EFF’s unequivocal dismissal of the multi-party charter and Shivambu’s bold assertions underscore the intensity of the competition among parties vying for dominance and the critical role that the EFF envisions for itself in the evolving political narrative.
