Ghana U-23 coach, Ibrahim Tanko, has admitted in plain words that he and his charges have disappointed Ghanaians.

The Olympic team suffered an early exit from the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The premature exit has shattered Ghana’s hopes of competing in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Last Friday night, the tram crushed the hopes of many Ghanaian football faithful when they drew parity (1-1) with their Guinean counterparts despite amassing four points after three games.

Ghana drew first blood when the game was developing, courtesy Emmanuel Yeboah.

But, Guinea replied after recess through an Ibrahima Breze strike which punished the lethargic defense of the Black Meteors.

Guinea thus advanced to the semi-finals despite the game ending in a 1-1 tie due to their superior goal difference.

The disappointed coach in a post match interview said, “I think we disappointed Ghanaians and ourselves, but we give thanks to God in every situation, and as I said, we will analyse and know what didn’t go well.”

Ghana will now have to wait until at least 2027 to hope for a return to the Olympic Games.

The Meteos, last participated at the Olympics in 2004, when Yusuf Chibsah captained the team, with the likes of Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan, John Mensah, William Tiero in Athens, Greece.
