Chelsea\u2019s owners have agreed a deal to buy a majority stake in French Ligue 1 club Strasbourg.<\/p>\n

Chairman Todd Boehly has previously said a multi-club model is a good pathway for young players to gain experience.<\/p>\n

The size of the stake is unknown \u2013 however, it has been reported the Blues will pay 75m euros (\u00a365m) for close to 100% ownership.<\/p>\n

Club president Marc Keller said it was an \u201cimportant day\u201d for Strasbourg.<\/p>\n

The former West Ham midfielder added that while there was \u201cno financial urgency\u201d to the agreement, the shareholders were aware the club had \u201creached the ceiling of our model\u201d and needed investment in order to develop their ambition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an important day for Racing,\u201d said Keller. \u201cIt\u2019s something my shareholder friends and I have been thinking about for the past two years. We\u2019ve built a club that\u2019s healthy at every level and well-managed.\u201d<\/p>\n

BlueCo, the consortium led by American Boehly that purchased Chelsea in a\u00a0\u00a34.25bn takeover\u00a0with private equity firm Clearlake Capital in 2022, said: \u201cIt is an honour for us to be part of this historic club.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to preserving the heritage of Racing and are focused on working closely with Marc and his management team to continue the excellent work they have been doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis strategic investment would further our presence in European football, alongside our ownership of Chelsea. We believe it would create huge opportunities to share knowledge and expertise.\u201d<\/p>\n

Strasbourg said BlueCo intends to make an \u201cactive contribution\u201d by investing in the men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams, plus the academy.<\/p>\n

The French side would also be able to \u201cexchange advice and expertise with Chelsea\u201d and any other teams the owners are involved with.<\/p>\n

The Blues have endured a difficult first season under their new ownership, sacking two managers and finishing in 12th place \u2013 their worst Premier League position for nearly 30 years.<\/p>\n

Strasbourg also found themselves struggling during 2022-23 and finished 15th in the French top flight.<\/p>\n
