{"id":70742,"date":"2023-05-25T18:39:31","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T18:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/05\/25\/freddie-blay-mulls-legal-action-against-csos-who-demanded-his-resignation-from-gnpc\/"},"modified":"2023-05-25T18:39:31","modified_gmt":"2023-05-25T18:39:31","slug":"freddie-blay-mulls-legal-action-against-csos-who-demanded-his-resignation-from-gnpc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/05\/25\/freddie-blay-mulls-legal-action-against-csos-who-demanded-his-resignation-from-gnpc\/","title":{"rendered":"Freddie Blay mulls legal action against CSOs who demanded his resignation from GNPC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"384\"  alt=\"\" title=\"freddie blay\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/freddie-blay-696x384.png\" data- class=\"entry-thumb lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"384\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/freddie-blay-696x384.png\"   alt=\"\" title=\"freddie blay\"\/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p><strong>Board Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Freddie Worsemao Armah Blay has described as \u201cdeeply regrettable and unfortunate\u201d calls made by some 29 civil society organisations (CSOs) for his resignation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He said the CSOs could have verified their claims before coming out to \u201cmisinform\u201d the public.<\/p>\n<p>Together with the Chief Executive of GNPC, Mr Blay was accused of engaging in a transaction to offload 50 percent of GNPC\u2019s existing stake in Deepwater Tano Contract Area, an action which constitutes divestment of the state\u2019s beneficial interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span id=\"page3R_mcid25\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The allegations surrounding the supposed \u2018surreptitious\u2019, \u2018clandestine\u2019, and \u2018<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">scandalous\u2019 sale of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">so-called<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">GNPC shares are unequivocally<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">false,\u201d he told journalists on Thursday, May 25.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page3R_mcid25\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cT<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">here is no <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">intention by GNPC or<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">me as its Chairman,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to divest 7%<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">shareholding in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">JOHL <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page35R_mcid0\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">nor has there been any claim by PetroSA to acquire shareholding interests in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">JOHL,\u201d he added.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page35R_mcid0\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cSuch claims can only stem from an uninformed and malevolent mind.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>He has dared his \u201caccusers\u201d to proceed to GNPC to \u201cinvestigate and ascertain the facts before succumbing to orchestrated and futile frenzies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page37R_mcid17\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cThe call for my resignation, as well as that of the CEO, in relation to this matter<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is deeply r<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">egrettable and unfortunate,\u201d he said.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page37R_mcid17\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u201cCSOs, are expected to protect the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">interests and rights of civil society,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">seek the public good and national interest.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Instead, the 29 CSOs that have called for my resignation, chose to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">engage hastily<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">this<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">matter<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">without seeking the facts, and rather misinform the public, in<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"\/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">pursuit of ulterior motives and a<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vested interest<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.
