{"id":60882,"date":"2023-04-25T08:52:30","date_gmt":"2023-04-25T08:52:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/04\/25\/individual-bondholders-withdraw-from-technical-committee\/"},"modified":"2023-04-25T08:52:30","modified_gmt":"2023-04-25T08:52:30","slug":"individual-bondholders-withdraw-from-technical-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/04\/25\/individual-bondholders-withdraw-from-technical-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Individual bondholders withdraw from Technical Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"492\"  alt=\"\" title=\"Abena-Osei-Asare\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Abena-Osei-Asare-696x492.jpg\" data- class=\"entry-thumb lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"492\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Abena-Osei-Asare-696x492.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Abena-Osei-Asare\"\/><\/noscript><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei Asare chairs the Technical Committee<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>The Individual Bond Holders Association of Ghana (IBHAG) has written to the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to recuse itself from deliberations of the Technical Committee set up to address concerns regarding domestic bonds in government\u2019s debt restructuring efforts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Association said its decision has become necessary \u201cas deliberations so far seem not to serve the primary interest of the distressed bondholders which is to access their locked-up investments\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Association had resisted the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) when it was rolled out.<\/p>\n<p>They have accused government of failing to honour its side of the bargain particularly on decisions taken at the level of the Technical Committee, chaired by a Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei Asare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, the process is turning out to rather impose a further degree of pain and despair on the bondholders and also depart from promises made by government to them,\u201d a letter to Mr Ofori-Atta said.<\/p>\n<p>Signed on behalf of the Association by lawyer Martin Kpebu, the letter said IBHAG will hold on to the already agreed timelines per the Friday, April 14 meeting held with the Ministry.
