Manchester United legend Eric Cantona believes it may take a few years for the Red Devils to end their wait for a 14th Premier League title.<\/p>\n
Under manager Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils are in a period of change and are now nine points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.<\/p>\n
Although the club has a chance to close the gap with the Gunners this month, Cantona believes they lack the basis to prevail in every match.<\/p>\n
The former United captain told Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News that while Sir Alex Ferguson had the team in great shape, times had changed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I got to the club, Alex Ferguson was the manager,\u201d he remarked. When I joined the team, United, we were on the verge of winning the league; we did when I played for Leeds. The club was in great shape, and Alex Ferguson spent some time adding various items.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt this point, I predict that it will be a while before Manchester United wins it again. Hopefully not. However, I don\u2019t think United\u2019s foundation today is strong enough to win every game, and I believe the finest players in the world wanted to join United during Alex Ferguson\u2019s era. You must think differently since the situation has changed.<\/p>\n
United is improving steadily under Ten Hag<\/p>\n
There has been a good vibe surrounding the squad since since Ten Hag arrived. The Dutchman has given players who lacked confidence the previous season a winning mentality.<\/p>\n
Under Ten Hag, players like Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot have made outstanding progress. Ten Hag has also made wise decisions when it comes to making signings in the transfer market.<\/p>\n
United has a great chance to end their six-year trophy drought this season by taking home the Carabao Cup. A successful season would include both trophies and a top-four finish.<\/p>\n
If United can cut the gap on Manchester City and Arsenal, they could win the league as well. United would be viewed as real contenders if they defeated both this month.<\/p>\n
The Manchester derby between United and Pep Guardiola\u2019s team is set for this afternoon. They enter the contest as minor favorites and have the opportunity to send a powerful message by defeating the Cityzens.<\/p>\n
