According to the source, The ODM party, Raila Odinga and Martha Karua are among thousands of mourners attending the funeral of the first woman to be elected into parliament at her home in Kodiaga, Gem constituency, Siaya county.<\/p>\n

Mama Grace Aketch Onyango aka Aketch Mayor was born in the year 1924 and died on date 14 when the world was celebrating International women\u2019s Day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Aketch was the first Kenyan female mayor, after she replaced Mathias Ondieki\u00a0as the Mayor of Kisumu\u00a0in 1965. She was also the first female Member of Parliament in post-independence Kenya after she was elected to represent Kisumu Town constituency\u00a0in 1969.\ufeff\ufeff<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n In Parliament, Onyango was the first woman to sit in the speaker\u2019s chair as temporary deputy speaker, and served as Deputy Speaker from 1979 to 1984. Her political career ended after she lost her parliamentary seat in 1984.<\/span><\/p>\n May her soul rest in eternal peace.
