{"id":52220,"date":"2023-03-31T08:56:21","date_gmt":"2023-03-31T08:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/03\/31\/manchester-united-owes-almost-1bn-new-figures-reveal\/"},"modified":"2023-03-31T08:56:21","modified_gmt":"2023-03-31T08:56:21","slug":"manchester-united-owes-almost-1bn-new-figures-reveal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/03\/31\/manchester-united-owes-almost-1bn-new-figures-reveal\/","title":{"rendered":"Manchester United owes almost \u00a31bn, new figures reveal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/skynews-old-trafford-manchester-united_6059826-696x392.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"skynews-old-trafford-manchester-united_6059826\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Manchester United owe \u00a3969.6m through a combination of gross debt, bank borrowings and outstanding transfer fees with associated payments, according to new figures.<\/p>\n<p>The club released their second quarter results to 31 December on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike previous years, there was no investors\u2019 call afterwards as a result of the ongoing \u201cstrategic review\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>This could lead to\u00a0the sale of the Premier League club.<\/p>\n<p>The review itself is centred on how to meet the club\u2019s long-term capital investment needs, specifically for improvements to Old Trafford and the club\u2019s Carrington training ground, and \u2013 it is being stressed \u2013 is not due to any issues with short-term liquidity.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the amount owed the club has grown.<\/p>\n<p>While the principal debt remains at $650m, a change in the exchange rate meant the club owed \u00a3535.7m compared to \u00a3477.1m at the same point in the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, \u00a3206.2m has been taken from a rolling credit facility, with another \u00a3227.7m owed in outstanding transfer fees. The club did have \u00a331m in cash or equivalent, but the overall sum remains just short of \u00a31bn.<\/p>\n<p>BBC Sport has been told the figures are evidence of a \u201cstretched\u201d financial situation, although it is being stressed that this has already changed for the better, due to bumper matchday revenues and impressive season ticket sales \u2013 and they expect that to continue.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, in posting profits of \u00a36.3m for the quarter, United have also revealed sponsorship revenue has increased 43.2% to \u00a350.4m over the prior quarter.
