It is in Kiswahili and English, directed by Leila Djansi\u2019s mentee, Voline Ogutu.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on Facebook Leila Djansi stated that she is excited to have been a mentor to Voline.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fleila.afuadjansi%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02pL7ww21zW4Vp1qD4hpTvbNS9nCB9VUGuZchPDaBxRyYJkwJsc9JXT1CMhuPGCV2Wl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"557\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>She noted that she was attracted to the project because it was a story that was not only told to her as a young girl but also emphasises women having a voice.<\/p>\n<p>The African Folktales, Reimagined, a UNESCO\/NETFLIX project, is a short film competition across Sub-Saharan Africa. The winners were trained and mentored by industry professionals and provided with a production budget to create short films that premiere on Netflix as an \u201cAnthology of African folktales\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"678\" height=\"452\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-03-29-at-19.04.37.jpeg\" alt=\"Leila Djansi's mentee in UNESCO\/Netflix project releases movie\" class=\"wp-image-10032286849 lazy\"  data- title=\"Leila Djansi's mentee in UNESCO\/Netflix project releases movie\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Each UNESCO\/ NETFLIX storyteller was partnered with a local production company and under the guidance of a Netflix-appointed supervising producer, Steven Markovitz from Big World Cinema.<\/p>\n<p>Industry mentors like Leila Djansi, Bongiwe Selane, Jenna Bass, Pape Boye, Femi Odugbemi, Tosh Gitonga provided guidance and nurtured the filmmakers to realize their dreams.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2023-03-29-at-14.59.14.jpeg\" alt=\"Leila Djansi's mentee in UNESCO\/Netflix project releases movie\" class=\"wp-image-10032286851 lazy\"  data- title=\"Leila Djansi's mentee in UNESCO\/Netflix project releases movie\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Meanwhile, \u2018Anthology of African Folktales\u2019 was premiered on Netflix on March 15.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with JoyNews, Leila Djansi said \u201cI am excited because you get to maximize the potential of others. This particular initiative has presented an equal playing field for emerging African filmmakers and their counterparts abroad like in Hollywood which is like the big machinery\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She further stated \u201c it is telling the gatekeepers of Hollywood that if you present Africans with the right resources; distribution, marketing, festival opportunities, we are effective, we are capable.
