{"id":46893,"date":"2023-03-21T11:35:07","date_gmt":"2023-03-21T11:35:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/03\/21\/kejetia-market-opens-for-trading-after-fire-outbreak\/"},"modified":"2023-03-21T11:35:07","modified_gmt":"2023-03-21T11:35:07","slug":"kejetia-market-opens-for-trading-after-fire-outbreak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/03\/21\/kejetia-market-opens-for-trading-after-fire-outbreak\/","title":{"rendered":"Kejetia Market opens for trading after fire outbreak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"694\" height=\"391\"  alt=\"\" title=\"kejetia market\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/kejetia-market.png\" data- class=\"entry-thumb lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"694\" height=\"391\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/kejetia-market.png\"   alt=\"\" title=\"kejetia market\"\/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p><strong>As announced by Vice President Dr Mahamudud Bawumia, the Kejetia Market has been opened for trading activities today Tuesday, March 21.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The gate of the facility opened around 5:45AM, TV3\u2019s Ibrahim Abubakar reported.<\/p>\n<p>Ibrahim further reported that the resumption of market activities has come as a relief to traders who were bent on not complying with the directive of management and board for further shut down of the facility for one more week.<\/p>\n<p>The fire outbreak at the facility led to a decision by the management of the facility to shut it down.<\/p>\n<p>Portions of the facility were gutted by fir last week.<\/p>\n<p>After an initial three days, another decision was taken to shut down the unaffected areas by one week and the affected area indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p>However, on Monday, March 20 when he visited the facility, Vice President Bawumia said per engagement with the management of the facility and experts, particularly the\u00a0Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS)\u00a0and the\u00a0National Disaster Management Organisation\u00a0(NADMO, the traders can reoccupy their stalls from Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf anything affects you, it affects me and everyone,\u201d he sympathised with the teeming traders, who had resisted the decision by the authorities to shut down the facility by one more week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was taken round, especially where the incident happened. The shops were 33 out of 8,000. I asked the Fire Service and NADMO officials as regards the cause,\u201d the Vice President said in Twi.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-285286 td-animation-stack-type0-2 lazyloaded td-animation-stack-type0-1\"   alt=\"\" width=\"641\" height=\"365\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Bawumia-Kejetia-Market.jpg\" data-\/><\/p>\n<p>He said the cause of the fire has been identified and assurance has been given that since it is not an electrical fault, the market will be open from Tuesday to safeguard the livelihood of the agitated traders.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Bawumia said\u00a0President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo\u00a0has also assured of helping all traders who were affected by the fire.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-285288 lazyloaded td-animation-stack-type0-2 td-animation-stack-type0-1\"   alt=\"\" width=\"639\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1679398507_501_Bawumia-Kejetia-Market2.jpg\" data-\/><\/p>\n<p>Dr Bawumia on Monday revealed that the Market fire was caused by the explosion of an unattended cooking gas cylinder.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI asked the\u00a0Ghana National Fire Service\u00a0and and NADMO what caused the fire and they told me that their investigations revealed that someone, a trader who was cooking in her shop using a gas stove and that was the fire started, close to a nearby chemical shop, where they sell gunpowder, carbide, turpentine that resulted in the explosion, he said after he visited the facility to inspect the extent of damage caused by last Wednesday\u2019s fire.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As announced by Vice President Dr Mahamudud Bawumia, the Kejetia Market has been opened for trading activities today Tuesday, March 21.
