{"id":46322,"date":"2023-03-20T10:58:38","date_gmt":"2023-03-20T10:58:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/03\/20\/act-now-to-limit-continuous-migration-of-health-workers\/"},"modified":"2023-03-20T10:58:38","modified_gmt":"2023-03-20T10:58:38","slug":"act-now-to-limit-continuous-migration-of-health-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/03\/20\/act-now-to-limit-continuous-migration-of-health-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"Act now to limit continuous migration of health workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Ghana Federation of Labour is warning that there may be dire consequences in the coming days if government does not take pragmatic steps to address challenges within the health sector.<\/p>\n<p>This warning comes on the back of a report released by the World Health Organization (WHO) which reveals that Ghana will soon face a health worker shortage due to international migration.<\/p>\n<p>The report indicates that health workers in 55 countries in the world are travelling to seek better opportunities in well-developed and wealthier countries, a situation WHO says may be a hindrance to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal target by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the WHO attributed this development to the adverse effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on these countries, stakeholders such as the Ghana Federation of Labour say priority support for health workforce development and health system strengthening will limit the continuous migration abroad.<\/p>\n<p>Vice President of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Kenneth Koomson urged government to urgently \u201ctake action to prevent the situation from worsening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Federation of Labour is warning that there may be dire consequences in the coming days if government does not take pragmatic steps to address challenges within the health sector.
