Acclaimed broadcaster and anti-corruption activist Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD) recently disclosed that the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has forbidden him from showing up on any of their platforms as a result of his criticisms of Nana Akufo Addo\u2019s inept administration. <\/p>\n

The management of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, which operates GTV, has released a press release in response to KKD\u2019s assertion. KDD previously claimed that his fiery donation to the government during a prior appearance on Ghana Television (GTV) was the reason he was prohibited from appearing on GTV.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0KKD, the ban has been caused by officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. \u201cThey told them not to allow KKD to appear on GTV again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

\u201cSince they said GTV is for the nation, I have never mentioned it anywhere. But it\u2019s funny. I haven\u2019t been there since they asked me not to come. If they deny that they said that, let them ask the Director General of GTV and the producers of GTV what they said to me that made me stop going there,\u201d KKD said<\/p>\n

Responding to KKD\u2019s claim, GBC via its press release said \u201cif this statement is truly coming from Kwasi Kyei Darkwa, it would be unfortunate. The claim is not true and can only be a product of his imagination\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cManagement of GBC wishes to put it on record that the Corporation does not take instructions from the Government when it comes to content production. Management is fully aware that it will be unlawful for Government to determine who comes on our platforms,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

The statement explained why KKD was not permitted to return to GTV, saying that \u201cGBC is governed by the ethics of public service broadcasting journalism. We don\u2019t allow guests to make accusations against people who aren\u2019t there or who don\u2019t have the chance to react right away.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also not into adversarial journalism, and panelists who adopt a combative style of discourse are not accommodated on GBC\u2019s network. GBC provides opportunities to panelists of all political persuasions to speak on our platforms and may retire them when there is a change in our content plan.<\/p>\n

We also retire panelists who over time change their style of discourse into a form that is unbefitting of GBC\u2019s editorial guidelines,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
