{"id":43475,"date":"2023-03-14T09:25:16","date_gmt":"2023-03-14T09:25:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/03\/14\/gra-refutes-claims-of-harassment-by-ken-agyapong\/"},"modified":"2023-03-14T09:25:16","modified_gmt":"2023-03-14T09:25:16","slug":"gra-refutes-claims-of-harassment-by-ken-agyapong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/03\/14\/gra-refutes-claims-of-harassment-by-ken-agyapong\/","title":{"rendered":"GRA refutes claims of harassment by Ken Agyapong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"560\" height=\"398\"  alt=\"\" title=\"ken_agyapong_ghana_news-min\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ken_agyapong_ghana_news-min.jpg\" data- class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"560\" height=\"398\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/ken_agyapong_ghana_news-min.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"ken_agyapong_ghana_news-min\"\/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<div class=\"td-a-rec td-a-rec-id-content_top  tdi_2 td_block_template_9\">\n<div class=\"td-all-devices\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"140\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/power_prophecy-inline.jpeg\" class=\"lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"140\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/power_prophecy-inline.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/noscript>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has refuted allegations of harassment levelled by Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP had claimed in an interview with Kumasi-based Sompa FM that his businesses are facing unprecedented \u201charassment\u201d and \u201cintimidation\u201d under the Akufo-Addo-led government.<\/p>\n<p>He said since he started doing business in the Fourth Republic, never has he come under such seeming high-handedness.<\/p>\n<p>But in a press release issued on Monday, March 13, GRA clarified that every move it has made on businesses, particularly the factory under construction by Mr Agyapong, is \u201cto measure and improve compliance whiles fine-tuning controls\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe factory in question together with other companies were thus audited to check the value<br \/>of goods imported and their intended use,\u201d the press release signed by an Assistant Commissioner, Florence Asante, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish to disclose that in January and February 2023, about thirty (30) of such risk-based activities were carried out on a number of businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Asante pointed out in the release that in the area of enforcement and compliance, GRA last September cranked up invigilation exercises at VAT-registered businesses such as shops, restaurants, and manufacturing sites.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis exercise was very successful and GRA intends to scale up the invoice invigilation exercise from April 2023 as part of its revenue mobilization efforts,\u201d the Authority announced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn carrying out all these enforcement and compliance activities, staff of GRA have been advised to remain professional and act at all times with integrity as required by the Authority\u2019s Code of Ethics and Conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GRA assured Mr Agyapong and, by extension, all taxpayers about its readiness to receive complaints and feedback in its work, encouraging those with evidence against any of its staff to report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also wish to state that GRA remains committed to carrying out its mandate of revenue mobilization with integrity, fairness and utmost professionalism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kwame_amoh?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @kwame_amoh<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has refuted allegations of harassment levelled by Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
