An inquiry into the National Cathedral\u2019s construction has been requested in a private members\u2019 motion that Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin has accepted.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The motion, which was submitted by MPs from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), will enable the committee to make pertinent suggestions for the Parliament\u2019s consideration.<\/p>\n

A portion of the public believes that the National Cathedral project is irrelevant given Ghana\u2019s economic difficulties, and the project has been the subject of numerous disputes and strong resistance.<\/p>\n

Recently, Kwabena Agyapong, a former general secretary of the NPP, expressed amazement at the government\u2019s role in building the national cathedral.<\/p>\n

He finds it shocking that the government is determined to use state monies for the Cathedral project.<\/p>\n

In an interview with JoyNews, Agyapong claimed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made no mention of the project receiving state funding.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m startled by the National Cathedral\u2019s problems. When the president said that, I assumed he was going to ask us Christians to donate since I assumed it was a private endeavor.<\/p>\n

Christians have started constructing their own cathedrals. Thus, I believe that if the president requests donations from us Christians, we may do so without having to deplete our finances.<\/p>\n

With the challenges we are dealing with, we are already under enough stress, he remarked.<\/p>\n

According to Kwabena Agyapong, there should be a National Cathedral in the same way that there is a National Mosque, but Christians should support the Cathedral in the same way that Muslims fund the Mosque.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
