Two gunmen fired at least a dozen shots into a store owned by Lionel Messi\u2019s in-laws in Argentina and left a threatening note for the international soccer star before fleeing on motorcycles, local police said.<\/p>\n

The attack took place early Thursday morning in Rosario, Messi\u2019s hometown and the nation\u2019s third-largest city that sits roughly 185 miles northwest of Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n

The city has been\u00a0plagued by drug violence\u00a0in recent years. Nobody was injured in the attack on the Unico supermarket owned by the family of Messi\u2019s wife Antonella Roccuzzo.<\/p>\n

Before fleeing, the gunmen left the note naming Messi and Rosario\u2019s mayor Pablo Javkin, police said,\u00a0according to The Associated Press.<\/p>\n

\u201cMessi, we\u2019re waiting for you,\u201d the note reads. \u201cJavkin is also a drug trafficker, so he won\u2019t take care of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Messi has not publicly addressed the attack.<\/p>\n

Javkin addressed the attack and portrayed it as an effort \u201cto create chaos in the city,\u201d\u00a0AFP reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat story goes more quickly viral in the world than an attack on Messi?\u201d Javkin said, per AFP.<\/p>\n

He also lashed out at federal authorities while visiting the site of the attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere are the ones who need to take care of us?\u201d Javkin said, per AP. \u201cIt\u2019s clear that those who have the weapons and have the possibility of investigating the criminals aren\u2019t doing it, and it\u2019s very easy for any gang to carry out something like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Per AP, the federal government\u2019s Security Minister An\u00edbal Fern\u00e1ndez characterised the attack as drug-related violence typical to Rosario \u201cfor the last 20 years.\u201d<\/p>\n
