{"id":23695,"date":"2023-03-02T12:39:31","date_gmt":"2023-03-02T12:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/03\/02\/ghana-is-bankrupt-mahama\/"},"modified":"2023-03-02T12:39:31","modified_gmt":"2023-03-02T12:39:31","slug":"ghana-is-bankrupt-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/03\/02\/ghana-is-bankrupt-mahama\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana is bankrupt &#8211; Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"335\"  alt=\"\" title=\"Mahama\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Mahama-696x335.png\" data- class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image lazyload\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"335\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Mahama-696x335.png\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Mahama\"\/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p><strong>Former President John Dramani Mahama has chastised the Akufo-Addo administration for the economic challenges in the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Mahama indicated that despite the hard work of his administration, Ghanaians decided to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 general elections due to the \u201clofty\u201d promises by the then opposition party in hope that their problems will be resolved.<\/p>\n<p>However, they have been disappointed by the Akufo-Addo government, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during his campaign launch to contest in the presidential primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 general elections, in Ho on Thursday, March 2, Mr Mahama said \u201cThis government has been clueless and in many ways callous\u00a0the unthinkable has happened and our country today is broken on all fronts, Ghana is bankrupt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are saddled with debts we simply can\u2019t pay, we have suffered the global humiliation of defaulting on our debts and being downgraded by all credit rating agencies to the lowest level ever seen in our history\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added \u201cOur economy is in the worst ever shape with suffering and pain on an unprecedented level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further said he does not take his decision to contest in the flagbearer elections of the NDC\u00a0lightly.<\/p>\n<p>In his view, the 2020 general election is the most important and defining poll in the Fourth Republic hence his decision to contest.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at his campaign launch in Ho on Thursday, March 2, he said \u201cFor the 2024 elections which I consider to be the most important and defining poll of our time, I have not taken this step lightly, it has been the product of months of prayer, broad consultations and sober reflections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have searched my sole and paid close attention to your voices, to your daily struggles and to your present national predicament.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added \u201cAt this stage, Ghana demands experience not experiment, Ghana demands togetherness and not divisiveness, now is the time for the bravery of heart and clarity of purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Laud Nartey|3news.com|Ghana<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President John Dramani Mahama has chastised the Akufo-Addo administration for the economic challenges in the country.
