Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja got into a confrontation with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after he proposed radical changes in the city that would have affected the Nairobi business community.<\/p>\n
Sakaja had indicated that matatus will be driven out of the Nairobi Central Business District in order to restore order and in the city.<\/p>\n
DP Gachagua was quick to respond to the governor telling him off about the proposal. He argued that the move would negatively affect the matatus business owners who overwhelmingly voted for him.<\/p>\n
He further assured Nairobi residents that he would talk to the governor to ensure that he changes his mind.<\/p>\n
Sakaja has responded to Gachagua\u2019s sentiments saying that he will not be told how the run the city. He added that he needs to transform the county for the better and he would do so unapologetically. Sakaja also emphasized he has no problem with President William Ruto.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Head of State William Ruto has been so supportive. But you will hear other people saying oh, Sakaja you know this city has been in this condition even before you were born. But I will tell you that is why I am the governor. I must transform it, I cannot leave it to be the way it was before I was born,\u201d he said on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
Immediately after the DP\u2019s remarks, Sakaja received support from Western region Members of Parliament those from the ri Azimio La Umoja coalition. They even threatened to impeach Gachagua for overstepping his mandate and advocating for the issues of one community only instead of the whole nation as the constitution envisaged.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the fight between Sakaja and Gachagua has been said to be the tip of the iceberg of the ongoing silent war between the DP and the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.<\/p>\n
