According to a report that was published online by Punch Newspapers on Wednesday afternoon, the Convener of the Northern Elders Forum, Professor Ango Abdullahi, disclosed that if the 202 presidential election is to be contested in a free, fair, and credible manner, it is still supposed to be the turn of a northerner to rule. According to the study, Abdullahi disclosed that the southerners have been in power from the beginning of democracy in 1999 for a total of 14 years, whilst the northerners have only been in power for a total of 10 years. He disclosed that Olusegun Obasanjo governed for eight years, and Goodluck Jonathan ruled for six years, for a combined total of 14 years of Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan\u2019s leadership. He continued by stating that Umaru Musa Yar\u2019Adua had a two-year term as president of Nigeria, and that the current president of Nigeria, who is also from the north, would use eight years of his term. He continued by saying, \u201cWe have been snubbed for four years; the time has not yet come for a northern president.\u201d<\/p>\n
While giving a speech at the Shehu Musa Yar\u2019Adua Centre, which is currently hosting the Northern Elders Forum\u2019s General Assembly as well as the \u2018s 10th Anniversary Celebration, \u201cThe constitution makes it abundantly clear that I can participate in the election twenty times and still end up with no votes at all. But if I so choose, there should be nothing stopping me from running for office. Then, when you consider it in terms of well, \u2018do me I do you,\u2019 which literally translates to \u201crub my back and I rub yours,\u201d the North has rubbed the backs of more people than its own back has been rubbed \u201c, he noted.<\/p>\n
