This means the<br \/>State is or purports to be officially neutral in matters of religion,<br \/>supporting neither religion nor irreligion.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>Religious pluralism, thus, thrives with thousands of sects that profess to believe in what they believe in without any hindrance.<\/p>\n<p>Though Ghana has for many years enjoyed relative peace with the citizenry existing harmoniously irrespective of religious differences, the Sunday gesture by the Chief Imam was one in a million.<\/p>\n<p>The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu on Easter Sunday visited the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra to worship with them.<\/p>\n<p>No need to<br \/>be mistaken, he was not there to enjoy Easter as some initially thought. He was<br \/>there for a bigger assignment.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson for the Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shuaib, is<br \/>best placed to explain the rationale: \u201cAs an icon of interfaith<br \/>dialogue, interfaith harmony, interfaith friendship, he decided to stretch a<br \/>hand of friendship to a church. That is a symbolic gesture to send a certain<br \/>strong message for the possibility of Muslims and Christians to live in peace<br \/>on the foundation of mutual respect, mutual cooperation and mutual solidarity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was not only historic, but showed how deep the National Chief Imam is and his contribution to fostering peace and harmony in the country.<\/p>\n<p>While we are basking in<br \/>the glory of entrenching our religious tolerance and living peacefully, others<br \/>are being slaughtered heartlessly elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sri<br \/>Lanka<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Friends-and-relatives-console-a-boy-at-the-burial-on-Monday-of-three-family-members-killed-in-the-Sri-Lanka-attacks.CreditCreditAdam-Dean-for-The-New-York-Times-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1794391\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"3930095641\" onload=\"pagespeed.CriticalImages.checkImageForCriticality(this);\"\/><figcaption><strong><em>Friends and relatives console a boy at the burial on Monday of three family members killed in the Sri Lanka attacks. Credit: Adam Dean for The New York Times<\/em><\/strong> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Easter Sunday, over 200 people lost their lives in Sri Lanka leaving the citizens in a state of shock and confusion. <\/p>\n<p>Three churches<br \/>were targeted.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sri<br \/>Lanka\u2019s Minister of Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene, the Sunday bombings were in<br \/>response to a recent attack on mosques in New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe preliminary investigations have revealed that what happened in Sri Lanka (on Sunday) was in retaliation to the attack against Muslims in Christchurch,\u201d he told Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>This is indeed<br \/>sad.
