{"id":1359,"date":"2023-01-04T05:39:29","date_gmt":"2023-01-04T05:39:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/01\/04\/osp-investigating-over-120-suspected-corruption-cases\/"},"modified":"2023-01-04T05:39:29","modified_gmt":"2023-01-04T05:39:29","slug":"osp-investigating-over-120-suspected-corruption-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/01\/04\/osp-investigating-over-120-suspected-corruption-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"OSP investigating over 120 suspected corruption cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"21\">The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) has revealed that it is currently investigating over 120 cases in which it suspects corruption.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"65\">In a half-year report pursuant to section 3(3) of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959) which mandates the Office to publish, on a half-yearly basis, cases it was investigating or prosecuting, the OSP said the cases include the alleged bribery by Airbus SE, a European multinational aerospace corporation, in respect of the sale and purchase of military aircraft for the Republic of Ghana.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text\" data-para-word-count=\"39\">The other named high-profile cases include an investigation into the banking and financial sector crisis, and allegations of attempted bribery of Members of Parliament by an <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">unnamed<\/span> wealthy businessman.<\/p>\n<p>Other cases under investigation are the <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">alleged improper acquisition of state-protected<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> land at the Achimota Forest enclave<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the Sakumono Ramsar <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">site by the deceased former Chief Executive of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Forestry Commission<\/span>, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie and an <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">investigation<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">respect<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">suspected<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">corruption<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"\/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">corruption<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2013<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">related offences in<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">respect of the recruitment exercise of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Course 51 of Cadet Officers Training at the Ghana Police Academy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Office is also investigating one hundred and twenty (120) other cases at various levels of consideration. These would be publicised if the Special Prosecutor determines that they are within the mandate of the Office and that they should be moved past the preliminary investigation stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">This is a policy inte<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">nded to protect the privacy of individuals and the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">business<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">operations<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">institutions<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">companies,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">avoid <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">unnecessary stigmatization,<\/span>\u201d the report by the Special Prosecutor stated.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The report by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, also stated that the O<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ffice<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">has concluded an investigation into allegations of the use of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">public office for profit against Charles Bissue, during his tenure as <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Secretary to the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">erstwhile<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Inter<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2013<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(IMCIM), arising from an investigative documentary title<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">d<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Galamsey Fraud <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Part I,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">published by Tiger Eye P.I.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and the investigative journalist, Anas <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Aremeyaw Anas<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The Special Prosecutor also revealed that it has concluded investigations into<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">suspected corruption and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">corruption<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2013<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">related offences in respect of a contract awarded by the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Northern Development Authority to A&amp;Q<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">S<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Consortium<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Limited<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">for <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">consultancy services under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Programme<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(IPEP), especially in respect of the quantum of the contract <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">sum<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The report added that the Special Prosecutor or an authorised officer will issue directives and<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"\/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">further action on the concluded cases in due course.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>));\/**\/<\/script><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) has revealed that it is currently investigating over 120 cases in which it suspects corruption.
