{"id":135870,"date":"2023-12-31T16:45:30","date_gmt":"2023-12-31T16:45:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/31\/security-will-be-our-priority-in-2024-reps-speaker-abbas-assures\/"},"modified":"2023-12-31T16:45:30","modified_gmt":"2023-12-31T16:45:30","slug":"security-will-be-our-priority-in-2024-reps-speaker-abbas-assures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/31\/security-will-be-our-priority-in-2024-reps-speaker-abbas-assures\/","title":{"rendered":"Security Will Be Our Priority In 2024 \u2014 Reps Speaker, Abbas Assures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_886234\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-886234\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-886234\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Tajudeen-Abbas-1-1024x570-1.jpeg-1.webp.webp\" alt=\"The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Saturday, said the Green Chamber would work to ensure that traditional rulers have constitutional roles.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"570\"  \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-886234\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tajudeen Abbas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has highlighted priority areas that the green chamber will focus on for the year 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Saturday during the vacation of the House for the yuletide, Abbas said after a review, the green chamber presented a \u201crobust legislative agenda outlining clear and specific objectives and priorities\u201d that it intends to achieve in the new year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis clarity is already contributing to focusing the efforts and resources of the house and its committees on key issues while at the same time making the legislative process more efficient and effective,\u201d the Speaker said.<\/p>\n<p>He listed the priority areas to include \u201cstrengthening good governance, improving national security, economic growth and development, social sector reform and development.<\/p>\n<p>Others are inclusion and open parliament, influencing\/directing Nigeria\u2019s foreign policy, and addressing climate change and environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>According to him! priority areas were \u201caggregated in consultation with citizens\u201d and carefully crafted to align with the presidential \u201crenewed hope\u201d agenda and the \u201cyearnings of our constituents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO: Plateau Massacre: Peter Obi Visits Victims, Donates N5m<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Presenting a scorecard of the House for the outgoing year, Abbas described the legislative outputs as remarkable.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that the green chamber received and considered 962 bills, 500 motions, and 153 petitions since the House was inaugurated on June 13.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf these numbers, 120 bills have passed the second reading stage. They are currently undergoing further review and refinement to address some of the concerns raised during the debates. Another 120 bills have been referred to committees for in-depth analysis,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Abbas said the bills are intended to provide immediate relief and long-term solutions to the challenges facing the country, adding that they are targeted at empowering citizens, enhancing social justice, promoting economic growth, and promoting peace and security.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker applauded security agencies for their efforts and sacrifices in protecting the country and assured that the House will continue to support the Federal Government\u2019s fight against insurgency and criminality through necessary legislative actions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div data-advadstrackid=\"890536\" data-advadstrackbid=\"1\" class=\"infor-target\" id=\"infor-1470354051\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/300x250b.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tajudeen Abbas Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has highlighted priority areas that the green chamber will focus on for the year 2024.
